Emma Phelan is an artist & designer specializing in branding and Squarespace websites for creative people and thoughtful brands.
Originally from Australia, Emma studied creative writing and graphic design at Curtin University, Perth, and George Brown College Toronto. She also did a specialty in Photography at TMU (formerly Ryerson) University Image Arts in Toronto as well as studied design at the ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles. She believes learning is ongoing and strives to continually learn new skills.
Emma started her career working for film festivals, such as TIFF, Inside Out LGBTQ Film Festival, ImagineNative and Outfest Los Angeles. She then returned to her roots and love of design.
Emma has had the pleasure to work with clients such as Sephora, Vice, SunLife, Pita Pit International, Ontario Arts Council, George Brown College, Canadian Civil Liberties Union as well as independent filmmakers and productions.
Emma has been a production designer for the award-winning short films Trashed and A Birthday Story and an executive producer on the critically-acclaimed feature-length lesbian thriller The Retreat. She also designs and creates for the boutique film production company Outside Line Studio.
She’s been the lead singer of two indie bands and loves hip hop dance, especially to the 90’s classics and sometimes even competes. She is passionate about art, film and music and is inspired by the beauty of nature and the spirit of rock n’ roll.
As a queer woman, mother of two and breast cancer survivor, she believes that any opportunity to make the world more beautiful, efficient and joyful is time well spent.
